If you’re asking yourself, “Is it too late to book senior pictures?”, you’re not alone. Every August, I hear from parents who suddenly realize school has started, yearbook deadlines are approaching, and senior portraits are still sitting on the to-do list.
The good news? In most cases, it’s not too late.

The Best Time Isn’t the Only Time
The most popular time for senior portraits is the summer before senior year, but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance if school has already started.
Some of my favorite sessions happen in late summer and throughout the fall. Northern Colorado offers beautiful golden light, changing leaves, and comfortable temperatures that make for amazing portraits.
Whether your senior loves downtown Fort Collins, open fields near Ault, colorful parks in Loveland, or somewhere that’s meaningful to them, there’s still plenty of opportunity to create portraits that feel authentic.
Why Families Wait
There are so many reasons families don’t book as early as they planned.
Life gets busy.
Vacations fill the calendar.
Sports practices begin.
Work schedules become hectic.
Before you know it, August arrives and senior pictures are still on the checklist.
If that sounds familiar, you’re definitely not the only one.
The Biggest Thing to Watch: Yearbook Deadlines
Every high school sets its own deadline for submitting senior portraits.
Some schools require images early in the fall, while others allow submissions later in the school year. Because every district is different, it’s important to know your school’s deadline before scheduling your session.
If you’re unsure, don’t panic. We can work backward from your deadline and determine whether we still have enough time.

What If You Miss the “Perfect” Season?
There really isn’t one perfect season.
Summer offers lush greenery and cool summer mornings.
Fall brings incredible colors and cozy textures.
Even winter and spring can create beautiful, unique portraits depending on the look you’re going for.
The most important thing isn’t the month.
It’s creating images that actually look and feel like your senior.
Don’t Settle for Rushing
When families think they’re running out of time, they sometimes book the first photographer with an opening.
Instead, choose someone whose style you genuinely love.
These photographs will become graduation announcements, wall art, albums, gifts for family, and memories you’ll look back on for years. It’s worth taking a little time to find the right fit.

If You’re Booking Now
If you’re reading this and wondering whether there’s still room on the calendar, the answer may be yes.
Every season looks a little different, and I occasionally have availability even after school begins. The sooner you reach out, the more flexibility we’ll have when choosing your session date.
Even if your yearbook deadline is approaching, don’t assume it’s too late. Let’s talk about your timeline and see what we can make happen.
Senior Portraits That Feel Like You
My goal isn’t just to take beautiful photographs.
It’s to create an experience where your senior feels comfortable, confident, and genuinely themselves. Whether they’re athletic, artistic, outdoorsy, quiet, or somewhere in between, we’ll plan a session that reflects who they are right now.
Years from now, I want these portraits to remind you of this exciting season of life, not just what your senior looked like, but who they were.
