That was a fun day! My birthday was August 27th and my husband, my brother, and I went out for the day. Though storm clouds looked threatening in the sky, it turned out to be a beautiful day! Our first stop was Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.
I had toldmy husbandthat I wanted to goto that areabecause, it was just far enough away that, my brother would never go there with his family- at least for several more years. I wanted him to be able to see that part of Coloradoplus he’d never been off-roading before.
Roosevelt National Forest surrounds Red Feather Lakes. That’s where we chose to off-road. Below, my husband and brother are discussing the dangers to his truck. If you know my husband, he’s a freak about his vehicles. Years ago while we lived in Florida, he had a new Dodge Ram that was immaculate. He RARELY took it out of the garage. He even stood between the garage door and his beloved truck during a hurricane! Since raising his current truck and us starting to off-road, he’s taking more and more ‘risks’.
Pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, but obviously there have been others in the area. This is a site that had a campfire at one time:
Couldn’t go up this way:
Out in the middle of nowhere, we find this pile of rubble that used to be a building. Oh, to know the story behind that building!
Not that we werelost, but my husband was trying to find a different way out so that we wouldn’t have to retrace our steps. The roads that showed on the GPS didn’t exist!
The guys were discussing whether we should cross the stream here, or in another location.
Another area was chosen. My brother is in the bushes holding the worst offenders off:
The sign on the gate says no motorized vehicles past that point. Beyond that point is some sort of water system. There’s a small pipe that leads from the container. It was in the middle of no where!
We ended up retracing our steps because it was around lunch time and we were hungry!
If walls could talk!
Stay tuned for Part II of my big day!
