The images below were taken between Idaho Springs and Central City on a back road.
I got back into the car and told my mom and brother what he had said. Always up for an adventure, my brother was all in. When my mom saw the curves, the unmaintained road, and the steep drop-off’s, she got nervous again. Because I was with them and not my husband, I didn’t feel right asking them to stop every few feet to take a picture. Some images are from the car while it was in motion.
When we saw these abandoned buildings, we all got out of the car:
Now this is where it gets spooky.
My brother read the back of the wall – it said Helter Skelter – and my mom got spooked.
As we came up to the next set of ruins, there was a woman and a dog sitting – well – on them. She said that she was waiting for the school bus. That was a bus stop. Amazing! Here are a couple of pictures from Russell Gulch. I could have spoken to the woman a lot longer, but my fellow travelers wanted to finish our journey:
The last images are from Central City. We reached the top of a hill and saw it below us. Pretty neat scene. I will definitely have to go back to see more of it.
We just drove up and down a few blocks before heading back home. We’d been gone all day, and seen a lot, and everyone was ready to end our trip. The next day I was heading to Snowmass Village, CO and hadn’t even packed yet!

Lovely photos – felt like I was on the journey with you!
