The Best Locations for Senior Pictures in NoCo (And Why I’m Not Telling You!)

Let me let you in on a little secret.

After years of photographing high school seniors all across Northern Colorado, I know some spots that will make your jaw drop. Fields that glow like something out of a movie during golden hour. Cool urban backdrops with so much character and texture that every frame looks editorial. Quiet, tucked-away places that feel like they were made just for a senior session.

And I’m not going to tell you where they are. At least not yet.

Here’s why – and stay with me, because this is actually good news for you.

NoCo Is Full of Hidden Gems (And That’s the Point)

Northern Colorado is genuinely one of the most beautiful places in the country to photograph seniors. We have everything here – wide open fields, charming small-town streets, mountain backdrops, golden prairie light, and pockets of urban grit that give portraits an edge. The variety is incredible.

But here’s what I’ve learned: the best locations aren’t the ones everyone already knows about. They’re the ones that feel fresh, uncrowded, and specific to you.

When every photographer in town is shooting at the same three spots, your portraits start to look like everyone else’s. And that’s the last thing I want for you.

What I Look For in a Senior Portrait Location

When I’m scouting a location – or recommending one for your session – here’s what I’m thinking about:

Light. Everything starts with light. A gorgeous location in bad light is just a pretty place. I know which spots catch the best early morning light in summer, which urban walls stay beautifully shaded on a bright afternoon, and which open fields look magical in the soft light of an overcast day.

Variety. I keep driving to a minimum so we’re spending your session actually capturing your portraits – but for my longer Experience sessions, we’ll often hit two thoughtfully chosen spots that complement each other perfectly

Your personality. This one matters most. A location that’s perfect for one senior might feel totally wrong for another. Are you outdoorsy and adventurous? Classic and timeless? Edgy and urban? Fun and playful? Your location should feel like an extension of who you are.

Freshness. I’m always adding new spots to my list and rotating what I use so your portraits don’t look like everyone else’s from that year.

The Types of Locations I Work With

While I’m keeping the exact spots close to the vest, here’s a peek at the kinds of locations I love to use across NoCo:

Open fields and wide skies – Nothing says Colorado like golden fields under a big open sky. These spots are dreamy, romantic, and timeless.

Urban and downtown backdrops – Brick walls, interesting architecture, string lights, and street-level character. Perfect for the senior who wants something with a little more edge.

Natural and wooded settings – Natural and wooded settings with beautiful open shade – I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of harsh dappled light through trees, so I know exactly how to find the spots that give you that gorgeous soft glow instead.

Colorado scenery – We’re in Colorado. The mountain views alone are reason enough to book your session. Some of my favorite locations put that iconic backdrop right behind you.

Small-town charm – There’s something so authentic about photographing seniors in the kind of places that actually feel like home. Northern Colorado has no shortage of spots with that warm, genuine character.

So… How Do You Find Out Where We’re Going?

Book your session.

Seriously – that’s it. When you reach out and we start talking about your session, one of the first things we’ll do together is figure out the perfect location for you based on your style, your personality, and the vision you have for your portraits.

I’ll bring the location knowledge. You bring yourself. And together we’ll create something that feels completely, authentically yours.
