I apologize for some of the images being blurry. This happened during import from an old blog site that I had. Some images and all content are still good.
Ah, finally a vacation that went right (minus the a/c going out on our dog sitter for two days – they had to endure 89 degrees). We spent six days in Pigeon Forge, TN. We visited Gatlinburg TN, Asheville NC, Knoxville TN, the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC, the Great Smokey Mountains, and the Cherokee National Forest. It turned out to be a very nice family vacation. This was our third time to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.
Since we had traveled all night to get to our destination, we were pretty tired that day. We had to have breakfast to get us going. We stopped at a place called Breakfast House in Pigeon Forge. It was right around the corner from where we were staying. The service was friendly, food was good and reasonable: Breakfast House, 2751 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN(865) 453-0624
My husband and I just drove around most of the day checking out the area. We stopped at the Welcome Center between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Let me just say, if you ever go to that one, bring an oxygen mask! They are LITERALLY right next to the water treatment plant. I wish I would have taken a picture to show I wasn’t exaggerating. People were going in and out of the Welcome Center holding their noses. Pee Yoo! Not sure who planned that out.
While driving around, we stopped at the area where you can catch the ride “Ober Gatlinburg”. It’s considered a ski resort and amusement center. In order to go there, you must pay to park (if you’re driving – not sure about walking). I think it was $5. Besides the aerial tram, they have indoor ice skating, they sell fudge, haveshops and restaurants. Here’s a link to their site:http://www.obergatlinburg.com/amuse.htm . It mentions more things than I saw, so I’m wondering if some of it is off-site.
That evening we went into Gatlinburg for a few hours to walk around and to see the sights. The boys went their way and my husband and I went ours’s. He’s great! He just let’s me take all the time I want to take pictures. With me, you need patience!
After that (around 11pm! – way past my bedtime), we went go-carting at The Track in Pigeon Forge – again, right around the corner from where we were staying. Right in walking distance. Well… they go-carted, I played around with my camera for their first ride. That was fun for me! Then the 2nd round, the boys and I raced each other. I am d a n g e r o u s ! ! They were completely stopped on the upper track at one point (which I didn’t realize) and I drove right into someone FULL SPEED – BOOM! I yelled “sorry!”
Then back to our room. This trip we were staying up late and getting up late. I could have slept much later, but what a waste of time that would have been!
