Fort Clinch State Parkis one of the three campgrounds that we stayed at on our 2007 vacation. They’ve got two campgrounds that seem like they’re in two different worlds! There’s a beautiful long, winding road that leads to the campgrounds, which means lots of places to ride bikes and lots of views. Many hiking trails. We spent our first night at the river campground, site 60 – we thought shade would be the most important thing in the summer, but it ended up raining our first day and the ground was SOAKED! But besides that. Lots of shade. Bathrooms were new and fantastic.

Anyway, because of the soaked ground, we checked into getting a site in the beach campground areathe next day. We lucked out and someone was leaving. We showed up at the beach campground (site 17) and WOW – like I said – NIGHT AND DAY! Hard to believe both campgrounds were in the same park! No shade, but RIGHT at the beach boardwalk.
The bathrooms – OLD. They need funds to remodel.
My son was on the beach and came running to the camper telling us there was a submarine in the water. Pretty cool. It was being towed.
They also have a very nice fort with people dressed for the time period, reenacting. All in all, it was a very nice park. The town is beautiful.
